DESCRIPTION
One of the most joyful ways to draw and paint is in a travel journal, a.k.a. an urban sketching journal. You can carry these lightweight and compact art materials with you everywhere, and make art anywhere from your backyard to the streets of Paris. The world is your subject!
Travel journaling is also a forgiving art activity. No style is better than another. Slow and realistic, quick and playful, beginner or advanced — they all document your adventures and have a character of their own.
In this class, your teaching artist will provide a demonstration, advice and tips. and we will spend the day painting around Port Townsend. Downtown is our starting point; we can take a break for lunch or just keep painting straight through — your choice.
SUPPLY INFORMATION
Students should bring a bound watercolor journal, at least 6" x 8" in size (smaller than that is actually harder), along with watercolor half-pans in a tin, a pencil, a container of water and a collapsible cup, absorbent towels or paper towels, watercolor brushes of various sizes and waterproof ink pens such as Sakura microns in .5 and .7. Anne likes to carry a tube of white gouache too. Also important for your comfort: a hat with a brim, drinking water and a collapsible chair or stool.
