Want to join a diverse and skilled group of more than 50 instructors annually who teach at Northwind Art?

Northwind accepts applications for workshops and courses (online and in person) year-round, and schedules them well in advance. 

Our goal is to create a balanced curriculum with a variety of content, for beginning to advanced students. Please check out our current class offerings here.

Northwind Art offers classroom space on our Fort Worden State Park campus, creates and promotes course listings, and handles all communication with students. This way, our teaching artists can focus on creating engaging class curricula.

To promote and fill classes, Northwind sends weekly e-newsletters to more than 5,000 subscribers. Classes are also posted on community calendars and shared through social media to thousands of followers. Teaching artists are also strongly encouraged to promote their classes to their own community via email, flyers and/or social media.

Compensation:

Teaching artists are guaranteed a minimum of $50/hour, (including 1 prep hour per day) so they are compensated for their time even at minimum enrollment (4 students for workshops, 5 for a series). 

When a class has 6 or more students enrolled, Northwind will instead split the full class income 50/50 with the teacher. This compensation reflects the added work of a larger class and will exceed the guaranteed minimum.

An exception applies to classes that require more private instruction or when facility capacity caps enrollment at 5 students. These classes will run at a minimum of 3 students, paid at $50/hr, and will share income 50/50 when 4 or 5 students are enrolled. These classes will be priced higher than standard workshops.

Additionally, teaching artists receive 50% off of other classes at Northwind Art (limit 3 per year).

If your course has been offered successfully in the past (minimum enrollment met or exceeded), a new proposal is not necessary. To suggest a repeat course, email viv@northwindart.org with new dates you are available to teach the course.

If a class has been offered in the past and canceled due to low enrollment, a new proposal is encouraged.
