NEW COURSE PROPOSAL INFORMATION

Apply to join a diverse and skilled group of more than 50 instructors annually who teach classes and workshops at Northwind’s Fort Worden campus.

Northwind Art accepts applications for online and in-person lectures, course and workshop proposals year-round, and schedules them well in advance. 

The goal is to create a balanced curriculum with a variety of content for students ranging from beginner to advanced levels. Please check the current classes on offer here.

Teaching artists need only focus on their teaching. 

Northwind provides administrative support and transaction processing for all classes, including all student inquiries and communications ahead of the class. 

Northwind Art additionally provides Zoom Pro hosting for our online classes and provides light technical help for you and your students.

To promote and fill upcoming classes, weekly e-newsletters are sent to more than 5,000 subscribers. Classes are also posted on community calendars and shared through social media to thousands of followers. 

Marketing materials for your class are placed in Northwind’s Jeanette Best Gallery in downtown Port Townsend, and at other venues in Jefferson County. Your class is marketing through channels such as print and on-line newspapers, calendars and social media. (Teaching artists are expected to promote their classes to their own community via email, flyers and/or social media as well).

Teaching artists are guaranteed a minimum of $50/hour (including 1 prep hour per day) so you are compensated for your time even at minimum enrollment—4 students for workshops, 5 for a series. 

When a class has 6 or more students enrolled, Northwind will instead split the full class income 50/50 with the teacher—compensation that reflects the added work of a larger class and will exceed the guaranteed minimum.

An exception applies to classes that require more private instruction or where facility capacity caps enrollment at 5 students. These classes will run at a minimum of 3 students, paid at $50/hr, and will share income 50/50 when 4 or 5 students are enrolled. These classes will be priced higher than standard workshops.

When submitting your class proposal, please complete the form below and email three to four high-resolution images representing what participants will create or learn during your course. Also, please include at least one professionally rendered head shot of yourself. Email admin@northwindart.org with the proposed course name in the subject line.

RETURNING COURSE PROPOSAL INFORMATION

 If your course has been offered successfully in the past (minimum enrollment met or exceeded), a new proposal is not necessary.

If a class has been offered in the past and canceled due to low enrollment (based on the most recent offering), a new proposal is encouraged, but not required. 

In your proposal include a rationale for offering it again. For example, you have a group of participants ready to sign up; you have established stronger and more effective avenues for promoting your class, or you have restructured the class.

To submit a returning course proposal, email admin@northwindart.org with new dates you are available to teach the course. Approved courses are generally scheduled on a first-proposed basis.
