DESCRIPTION
Join local queer artist & designer, Makenna O’Keeffe for The Pansy Palette! A monthly queer community centered art night, held on second Wednesdays starting in February! Each session will focus on a different medium/ project/ craft, materials provided unless prompted otherwise.
Why the “The Pansy Palette” you ask? Port Townsend is a cute little bygone Victorian era aesthetic town, which led Makenna to think about the Victorian queer code that came about during that time to help LGBTQAI+ folks signal to each other that they were “family.” Think Hanky Code but way earlier and even more covert. So, in this day and age, we’ve all heard queers referred to as “pansies” right? Well that’s where it came from! In Victorian times the pansy flower, the green carnation, and other secret codes/imagery were worn, and used in art as a way to sneakily signal one's queerness.
So let’s rendezvous at a not quite so hidden spot to make art, be queer, get cute, flirt, make friends, and create intentional space where we can explore different arts & crafts practices together! Bring one or more friends, lovers, hot dates, partners, or take yourself on a fun solo date to learn a new medium!
