Drop in for this afternoon workshop! Bring the family (two adults and up to four kids) to work together in the creation of prints on paper using the historical cyanotype photographic process.

You and your family will be guided through the cyanotype process by East Coast artist Fruma Markowitz. You will use paper pre-coated with the non-toxic cyanotype UV-sensitive solution to make imaginative compositions using provided botanical specimens and common household materials that, when exposed to the sun and then washed with plain tap water, will result in one-of-a-kind magical, blue and white images. The results are surprising, ethereal, and delightful!

All materials and supplies are provided with the materials fee.

After registration, course details are available via the Northwind Art School learning portal, including course syllabus and supply information. Learn more

Fruma Markowitz was formally trained in photography and fine arts at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, where she graduated with a BFA in Photography in 1984. For the next five years she worked as a photojournalist, book jacket designer, portraitist and fashion photographer, as well as teaching and showing her personal work in Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Jerusalem. Since moving to Connecticut in 2003, Fruma’s photography practice has functioned as her personal visual diary. She makes images daily and shows her work at both local and national fine art venues. During the COVID-19 pandemic her practice pivoted toward engagement with historic and alternative photographic processes, with a focus on cyanotype, multi-media collage and lumen printing. Concern with womanhood, cultural history, memory and shared legacies are where she mostly draws inspiration for making images.
