DESCRIPTION
This one-day workshop focuses on creating powerful, dynamic, and colorful landscape paintings at Fort Worden. We'll learn to interpret the landscape to create paintings that are strong, simple, and well designed.  We'll cover the properties of color, techniques to mix correct values, making color changes on every shape, light direction, and varying intensity and edges.

This is an indoor and outdoor experience, a mixture of time in the classroom and time outdoors painting on location, weather dependent, for intermediate and advanced level painters. Teaching artist Cathe Gill will demonstrate in watercolor, but all media are welcome. Color, design, and shapes belong to all media.

We will start out in the classroom talking about design and how to find a composition in the great outdoors, and discuss basic ways to approach color when the light changes.
After that, we will travel to a nearby location where Cathe will demonstrate in watercolor while you eat your lunch. In the afternoon you will set up and paint in whatever medium you choose. Finally, at the end of the day we will return to the classroom to show and discuss our paintings.
