Students will learn how to use a Pinsta pinhole camera and experience the magic of making photos using only a box with a tiny hole with Martin Vanners, world-renowned Dutch pinhole photographer and social media manager and content creator for Pinsta and Jen Cohen of the Raw Art Collective. The simple yet elegant camera has gained a cult following amongst photographers and other creatives around the world. The Pinsta is a lensless camera and darkroom in one and is hand made by a small team in Great Britain.

Students will experience the meditative nature of long exposure photography, the fun gestures involved in using the camera, and delight in seeing their images come to life from a small black box. Students will take home photos. This is not a technical pinhole photography class and no experience is necessary. Resources (web links) will be provided for students who are interested in the technical/scientific aspects of pinhole photography.

All required supplies are provided with the materials fee, including photographic paper/film, developer and fixer, syringes, Pinsta cameras, and black bags for use during the class.

Students can bring their own tripod and download a light meter app on their cell phone if they wish, but these are optional and not required.

After registration, course details are available via the Northwind Art School learning portal, including course syllabus and supply information. Learn more

Martin Vanners has a rich creative history (15 years of digital photography, followed by 5 years of 3D and animation). He discovered analog pinhole photography recently and found his soul mission in teaching his sought-after workshop "The Art of Being," where mindfulness meets pinhole photography. Focus Magazine, one of the oldest photo magazines in the world, recently did a full-length feature on Martin and his pinhole photography work. Martin has been an invited speaker at the prestigious Amsterdam Photo academy, and exhibits his work globally.
