LUCIA ENRIQUEZ makes art shaped by her experiences with immigration, family history, her heritage, and time spent in nature.
“Art is my way of searching for meaning in our constantly changing world,” she writes.
Trained as a traditional printmaker, she incorporates digital painting into her practice. She creates special effects such as paint drips suggesting the passage of time, traces left by partial erasure, and layered transparent colors that create depth.
In recent years, her art has explored the pre-colonial culture of the Philippines — its beliefs, stories, and worldview.
“You may notice glyphs from an indigenous Philippine writing system in my work. You might see allusions to creatures from Philippine myth,” Lucia writes. She hopes her art inspires a moment of reflection on how we all navigate between honoring our roots and creating something new.
