DESCRIPTION
Curious about how to use a sewing machine, or want a refresher before diving into a project? This workshop is the perfect place to start. In this fun one-day class you’ll learn the essential functions of a sewing machine: how to thread it, what a bobbin is and how to wind one, how to adjust stitch settings and troubleshoot common issues. We'll practice sewing basic seams and learn how to sew on a zipper. We will be sewing useful zipper bags as our final project.

You can bring your own sewing machine or use one of Northwind Art’s machines (just let us know ahead of time), and by the end of this workshop you will leave feeling confident and ready to take on future projects. This course is intended for beginners and is ideal preparation for future sewing classes and projects.

ABOUT EVETTE
Evette Allerdings is an artist whose primary work is silk paintings, while she also sews, embroiders, beads, quilts, designs, and much more. She was born, raised, and lived in Hawaii for the majority of her life, and moved to Washington in 2018. Evette has a BS degree in Fashion Design and is a multi-award winning costumer. Always searching for the perfect fabric for a costume, Evette ventured into painting on silk in 2015 and found a new passion. She started by attempting to create the design of a vintage kimono, which was inspired by childhood memories of her grandmother dressing Evette up in the most colorful kimonos to celebrate Girls' Day. She still loves color and all her paintings are quite colorful. Evette won first place in the 2D division at the 2021 Silk Painters International Festival for her piece Solace.
