DESCRIPTION
The practice of silk painting using water-based resists is vivid like creating stained glass on fabric. In this workshop, we'll use silk habotai with award-winning artist Evette Allerdings teaching us a variety of techniques to create one-of-a-kind pieces to wear or display. We will each have time to make two painted pieces: a silk habotai and a silk charmeuse square.

 SUPPLY INFORMATION

  • Students should bring an apron and a roll of paper towel.
  • Evette will provide students with an instructional worksheet, two pieces of silk, stretching frame, safety pins with stretching clips, use of 12 silk dye colors, palette, brushes, gutta in an applicator, salt, alcohol, sizing, newsprint, blow dryer, and steamer.
  • Students will be able to take home a completed 25" x 25" silk crepe de chine piece and a 21.5" x 21.5" silk habotai piece to steam at home.

ABOUT EVETTE
Evette Allerdings is an artist whose primary work is silk paintings, but she also sews, embroiders, beads, quilts, designs, and much more. She was born, raised, and lived in Hawaii for the majority of her life, and moved to Washington in 2018. Evette has a BS degree in Fashion Design and is a multi-award winning costumer. Always searching for the perfect fabric for a costume, Evette ventured into painting on silk in 2015 and found a new passion. She started by attempting to create the design of a vintage kimono, which was inspired by childhood memories of her grandmother dressing Evette up in the most colorful kimonos to celebrate Girl's Day. She still loves color and all her paintings are quite colorful. Evette won first place in the 2D division at the 2021 Silk Painters International Festival for her piece Solace. She also won the People's Choice Honorable Mention Award in 2022 for Goodbye Dad.
