DESCRIPTION
Discover the transformative power of value tones in this immersive one-day workshop led by Anne Pfeiffer. Using Value Tones to Create Depth in Two-Dimensional Art is designed for beginning artists or those new to realism, offering essential techniques to bring greater dimension and life to your work—whether you prefer stylized designs or realistic renderings.
The workshop begins with an engaging discussion on how light interacts with three-dimensional objects to create a range of value tones. You'll then practice building a value tone scale to strengthen your understanding of light-to-dark transitions. Finally, apply these concepts hands-on through a simple still life exercise, using both graphite and charcoal to explore the full spectrum of shading techniques.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have gained practical skills and "magic tricks" to create compelling depth in your drawings, illustrations, and paintings—no matter the subject or medium.
