DESCRIPTION
Discover and delight in the exploration of who you are. The self-portrait represents the whole artist, not only who you see, but what you feel. Through observation and prompted exercises, we will explore ways to examine our features using a mix of materials and techniques, from contour drawing, sumi ink painting, watercolor washes and more. With each change in medium and paper, our mark making alters our portrait and perspective. Our discoveries lead to new paths.
In this two-day workshop we find insight and inspiration from artists, including the portraits of Matisse, Calder, Ringgold and Asawa; and the writings of Thoreau, Henri, Ozeki and Rubin. We celebrate the exploration of control and flow, light and shadow, texture and temperature, uncovering a fresh view of our self-portrait.
