DESCRIPTION
Discover the art of handcrafted jewelry in this engaging and hands-on beginner class led by jeweler April Ottey. Perfect for those new to metalsmithing or eager to refine basic skills, this course introduces essential jewelry fabrication techniques using non-ferrous metals such as copper, brass, and sterling silver.

Students will receive step-by-step instruction in key processes including sawing, filing, soldering, stone setting, and finishing. Through demonstrations and guided practice, you’ll gain confidence in using fundamental tools and techniques to transform raw materials into beautiful, wearable art.

What You’ll Make:

  • Project 1: Earrings – Learn the basics of design, precision sawing, metal texturing, and finishing while creating a unique pair of earrings.
  • Project 2: Pendant or Ring with Bezel Setting – Advance your skills with this sterling silver piece featuring a bezel-set cabochon stone. Explore the art of stone setting, metal forming, and soldering while designing a one-of-a-kind pendant or ring.

By the end of the course, you’ll walk away with two completed pieces of jewelry and a solid foundation in fabrication techniques—ready to continue your creative journey in jewelry making.
