DESCRIPTION
Are you ready to take your cold wax and oil paintings to the next level? In this class for participants who are familiar with mixing and applying the cold wax and oil medium, we’ll continue the joyful spirit of making messes, trying new things, and having fun without attachment to the outcome. Together, we’ll explore fresh ways to build texture, layer color, and loosen up your creative process.
This is a class about flow and curiosity, where play leads the way. You'll learn creative ways to layer and add depth and texture to your art, while teaching artist Suzy Carroll shares tips for composition and color harmony. Bring your questions, your works in progress, and your sense of adventure. We will explore and revel in the joy of painting!
SUPPLY INFORMATION
Students should bring:
- Oil paints (no old paints or linseed-based oils, please);
- Cold wax medium;
- Squeegees and if you have them, palette knives;
- Flat cardboard or a firm surface for safely transporting your creations;
- Any paintings in progress you’d like to work on or discuss.
- Optional: your favorite texture-making materials such as tissue paper, stencils, or anything else you love to play with.

ABOUT SUZY
Raised in Washington State by mountaineering and sailing parents, Suzy Carroll grew up with nature as her closest companion. Years spent watching clouds shift, water sparkle, and horizons stretch continue to inspire her art today.
After a long career in business and coaching—including earning an ICF certification as a Jungian Life Coach in 2022—Suzy turned fully toward her creativity. In early 2023, she began painting daily and quickly discovered cold wax as a medium that thrives on letting go of control. Within months, she sold her first piece and embraced her true path as an artist.
Her work is guided by five principles: create without attachment, create with joy, embrace imperfection, step away when it feels like “work,” and always go with the flow.

CANCELLATION POLICY
If Northwind Art has to cancel a course for any reason, all enrolled students will receive a 100% refund (including any materials fee).
Students who withdraw from a course at least seven days prior to its first meeting will receive a 90% refund (less any materials fee).
Students withdrawing fewer than seven days from the first day of class are not eligible for a refund except in the case of illness or injury, in which case they are eligible to receive a 40% refund (less any materials fee).
Please note that 10% of every course’s registration fee is considered to be a non-refundable deposit in cases of withdrawal to cover administrative overhead. All refunds will be applied to the same credit card that was used for enrollment. No credits or transfers will be granted.
