DESCRIPTION
Explore new techniques that will transform words into art. We will examine two twentieth-century visual artists whose work incorporates text and text-like elements. Through a series of exercises based on masterworks by Cy Twombly and Mark Tobey, we will combine drawing materials and paint to create richly layered, small pieces that fuse text, texture and color. This process will enable you to add greater depth, meaning, and possibility to your artistic practice. You will complete the class with an appreciation for two influential artists, new ways of working, fresh ideas and a hand-constructed portfolio to house your own word art.
