DESCRIPTION
Still life paintings are a favorite with artists of all levels because still life objects have a serene solidity, changing only as the light hits them. Unlike a more complex subject like a landscape, still lifes allow the artist to focus on simple shapes, composition, value, and color variations without a lot of overwhelming extra information to be edited out.

Accomplished artists of any subject and medium will choose a still life when they crave some simplicity while practicing painting or drawing the variations of color and values of light and shadow. Beginning artists can quickly improve their skills focusing on still lifes before moving on to other subjects. This is an open studio with instructor feedback if requested. This is a wonderful way to try still lifes, or to get out of your studio, meet other artists and get some feedback if wanted.

The instructor will set up two still lifes with strong lighting: one simple, one more complex (and will adjust as requested), or individual customized simple still lifes.  All levels welcome. You are welcome to bring a medium you are just starting with because your instructor is proficient in all media mentioned in the Supply Information.

Another Still Life Open Studio workshop will also take place on July 15 and the same still lifes will be set up for both workshops in case you need both sessions to complete a painting, with additional new still lifes added for those who are doing quicker studies but want a second session. You are welcome to sign up for either individual session or both!
