DESCRIPTION

Geared toward absolute beginners, but informative and fun for anyone, the goal of this workshop is to explore the human form and take the fear out of this most challenging subject! Students will learn about figure drawing using pencils and charcoal, and expand on this approach by creating a painting (or two!) using Acrylic paints. Julie Read will cover a variety of topics pertaining to drawing and painting that will apply to any subject matter, and though she will be focusing on realism, she encourages her students to explore their impulses and find their own unique style. You will leave the workshop with finished pieces and the confidence to acquire your own set of drawing and painting materials for a home practice.

You will be drawing and painting right away, all three days, and we will be learning a lot! There will be snacks, coffee, tea and sodas available, and we will take periodic breaks every day to stretch and recharge. Bring a lunch or plan to grab something at Reveille for a 45 minute lunch break around 12 each day.

ABOUT JULIE
Julie Read is a self-taught acrylic painter, learning the basics from Port Townsend artist and teacher Max Grover. Her painting style is narrative realism, often with a humorous and nostalgic bent. She teaches using traditional painting techniques that produce true-to-life images but encourages her students to find their own painterly style with a broad range of assignments and exercises.
