DESCRIPTION
Learn naturalistic floral design through the lens of sculpture and then explore still life in your chosen medium! In the first half of this workshop guided by floral designer and farmer, Emmy Gran, you will learn the elements of elegant and expressive floral design. You will explore space, shape, movement, rhythm, scale, texture and color through the juicy and fresh medium of local seasonal flowers. Revel in the blousy nature of summer flowers. Let their loose, billowing form inform your creations. Then immortalize your creation with a still life drawing class that afternoon. We will use flowers like foxgloves, roses, pincushion flower, statice, chocolate lace flower and sweet peas. You will walk away with the knowledge of how to prepare flowers for design work, manipulate stems for best vase life, utilize floral mechanics, as well how to photograph your arrangements.
The second half of this workshop will be guided by the dynamite teaching artist, Suzanne Lamon. You choose the medium and bring the supplies. and Suzanne will guide you through what to look for as you immortalize your floral arrangement in a still life. Suzanne will help you capture the little fists of flowers along side the joyful sprays that have guided you in the arranging process. You will go home with both your floral arrangement and a still life masterpiece.
