DESCRIPTION
Take your phone camera photography to new heights with pro photographers John and Lisa Merrill. You’ll start with an inspiring and interactive presentation in Northwind Art's classroom. Using examples from their assignments and adventures around the world, the Merrills will introduce you to the keys to compelling images: light, design, and moment.

You’ll learn about your smartphone’s powerful features (including portrait mode, burst mode for action and panorama mode for stunning landscapes and seascapes) along with apps and accessories to extend its capabilities and nourish your creativity. John and Lisa will also share tips to help you organize photos on your phone, optimize your favorites, and combine them into compelling visual stories (and photo products) to treasure and share.

After a lunch break you’ll have the opportunity to apply what you learned and nurture your creativity in Port Townsend and Fort Worden. On-location photo coaching can be transformative. With the Merrill’s demos and on-the-spot guidance and encouragement, you’ll harness the transformative power of light and compose for impact, and discover new ways of seeing and photographing. Possible subjects include landscapes and seascapes, nature’s intricate patterns, boats and nautical details, architecture, and people at work or play. We’ll explore using apps to make impressionist photos with creative blur, add textures, and combine multiple exposures.

A week following the class, our group will reconvene over Zoom to share images, give and get supportive feedback, and be inspired by what others created.

This class can be combined with the Merrill's Beyond the Postcard Shot: Evocative Travel Photography class into a two-day deep immersion into photography in Port Townsend.
