IN THE PACIFIC Northwest, we bathe in myriad shades of green and blue. Life here among the mountains, forests and waters can feel tranquil. Then a little time passesh... and the sky fills with drama as the clouds change shape, swell and part.

The artists in Northwest Expressions reflect these moods. Chosen from more than 600 entries from across Oregon and Washington, some of their creations capture fleeting moments, while others impart a feeling beyond time. These selections come from 38 artists in 17 cities, from Sequim, Washington, to Portland, Oregon.

Northwest artists, naturally, are resourceful. In the work in this exhibition, their materials range from pastels, gouache and oils to piano wire, several kinds of wood and watercolor, and raw rubies.

Jurors Richard Jesse Watson and his son, Jesse Joshua Watson, found themselves dazzled by this range of creativity. “Thank you for the privilege,” Richard said, “of diving deep into art, and into the minds and hearts of these artists.”
