DESCRIPTION
We are super excited that, after two sold out and beloved workshops last May and numerous requests for more, Martin Vanners of The Netherlands is making a highly anticipated return to Port Townsend to teach more workshops with Jen Cohen! In this workshop students will learn how to use a Pinsta pinhole camera and experience the fun and magic of making photos using only a box with a tiny hole and developing them on the spot, without the use of a darkroom. The best part? You don’t need any technical or photographic experience to enjoy this wonderful process and we promise you will go home carrying one or more impressive, analog photographs!

The simple yet elegant Pinsta camera has gained a cult following amongst photographers and other creatives around the world. Pinsta is a lensless camera and darkroom in one and is hand made by a small team in Great Britain.

No photographic experience is necessary. We welcome first time Pinsta users and those looking for a refresher. We will spend time at the end of the workshop sharing images and building the local Pinsta community. Participants can sign up for one or both of the workshops if they would like additional guided practice mastering the Pinsta process.

Fun fact: Port Townsend has more Pinsta camera owners per capita than anywhere else in the world!

SUPPLY INFORMATION
All required supplies are provided with the materials fee, including photographic paper/film, developer and fixer, syringes, Pinsta cameras, and black bags for use during the class.

Students can bring their own tripod and download a light meter app on their cell phone if they wish, but these are optional and not required.

After registration, course details are available via the Northwind Art School learning portal, including course syllabus and supply information. Learn more

ABOUT MARTIN
Using his Pinsta camera, a simple box with a hole, Martin Vanners captures light directly onto photographic paper. While this method may seem slow and unpredictable to some, for Martin, it is a deeply contemplative and magical process – a way to connect with the universe. With a background that includes stints at Nikon and Wacom, Martin now dedicates his talents full-time to exploring the limitless possibilities of pinhole photography. He has been an invited speaker at the prestigious Amsterdam Photo Academy. His work has been featured in Focus Magazine, and he exhibits his photography globally. In addition to his role as a full-time pinhole photographer, Martin travels worldwide to provide highly sought-after Pinsta pinhole photography workshops and works freelance as a social media and content creator for U.K.-based Pinsta camera.
