DESCRIPTION
Learn how to create a silk painted wearable art coverup with Evette Allerdings! We will measure ourselves and learn a little about what designs and colorways look good on us, and then make minor fitting adjustments to everyone's patterns to customize for a bespoke look. You will paint on two yards of silk fabric and then learn how to fearlessly cut and sew your fabric into a fabulous one-of-a-kind piece. Basic sewing knowledge needed. Some experience with silk painting would be good, but beginner silk painters are welcome.

SUPPLY INFORMATION
The $100 materials fee includes the following:

  • Enough silk to make a coverup (1 ½-2 yds of 45”-60” silk crepe, silk twill, silk charmeuse, or devore velvet).
  • Use of 3-4 colors of dye, enough to complete painting the silk.
  • Use of cold wax.
  • Use of a large stretching frame and stretching supples.
  • Use of 70% Isopropyl alcohol in spray bottles.
  • Use of Magic Sizing.
  • Foam brushes in assorted sizes.

ABOUT EVETTE
Evette Allerdings is an artist whose primary work is silk paintings, but she also sews, embroiders, beads, quilts, designs, and much more. She was born, raised, and lived in Hawaii for the majority of her life, and moved to Washington in 2018. Evette has a BS degree in Fashion Design and is a multi-award winning costumer. Always searching for the perfect fabric for a costume, Evette ventured into painting on silk in 2015 and found a new passion. She started by attempting to create the design of a vintage kimono, which was inspired by childhood memories of her grandmother dressing Evette up in the most colorful kimonos to celebrate Girl's Day. She still loves color and all her paintings are quite colorful. Evette won first place in the 2D division at the 2021 Silk Painters International Festival for her piece Solace. She also won the People's Choice Honorable Mention Award in 2022 for Goodbye Dad.
