Beginner to Intermediate
AGE GROUP: Adult (ages 18+), Youth (ages 15-17)
LOCATION: Building 306, Fort Worden, Port Townsend. (COVID protocol will be observed, read our policies here)

In this lively session, you’ll create mini, abstract collages on the spot with papers and marking pens. No paints! Your artist-teachers Anne Schneider and Carol Nielsen show you how to work spontaneously from prompts and you’ll see, in real time, very different art works that result. Enjoy similarities and differences in style as you interpret prompts and create art. Tips on the use of materials will be provided. No collage experience needed. Watercolor paper will be provided.

Students should bring:

  • Marking pens: Sharpies, paint pens, Posca pens, in a variety of colors.
  • Papers for collage: prints, patterns, many colors (these can be from magazines, calendars, maps, colored papers, painted papers, musical scores, pages of text from old books, etc.).
  • The art school has an ample supply of crayons and colored pencils for your use, as well as some collage papers!

Living in Port Townsend for over 30 years, Anne Schneider emerged from retirement as a mixed media collage artist. While learning techniques in collage artistry from teachers across the country – she found her own unique voice, bringing a lively palette to abstraction. She is a member of Port Townsend Gallery with work in many private collections.

Carol Nielsen is a mixed media collage artist living in Port Ludlow for over 10 years. Carol began focusing on mixed media collage during her retirement and is self-taught. She has studied with various artists in Port Townsend and Port Ludlow, learning a variety of techniques that she incorporates into her designs. Carol values lifelong learning and continues to study with artists in the Pacific Northwest. Her style is influenced by many years of creating balance, symmetry, and connections in her work with teams and in nature as a Master Gardener.

If Northwind Art has to cancel a course for any reason, all enrolled students will receive a 100% refund (including any materials fee).

Students who withdraw from a course at least seven days prior to its first meeting will receive a 90% refund (less any materials fee). Please note that 10% of every course’s registration fee is considered to be a non-refundable deposit in cases of withdrawal to cover administrative overhead.

Students withdrawing fewer than seven days from the first day of class are not eligible for a refund except in the case of illness or injury, in which case they are eligible to receive a 40% refund (less any materials fee).
