DESCRIPTION
Come and learn to leverage your access with photographer Eric Johnson. As Eric takes a photo he asks the following questions: What do I want to accomplish with a photograph? Am I making a product for a business? Am I making a portrait for a client’s personal use? Am I making something for my own creative expression? Once these decisions have been made, Eric suggests it’s time to move forward with planning and execution.
Through this lecture-based class, Eric will help you navigate the considerations of film versus a digital format, scouting locations, and ultimately leveraging the access you have to produce a unique image. He defines "access" as an opportunity to put yourself in a position to compose a great image. For this class a full studio setup at Fort Worden in Port Townsend will be available for local students to reserve time slots, if needed, to take the images they are trying to make. This is a unique opportunity to learn from a photographer who makes images and capture humans by harnessing curiosity.
The York and Goodman Photography Series was born from a hope to give photographers opportunities to stretch and reimagine how they use photography to capture the world around them. Each course in the series will include an hour-long lecture and Q&A session, a week-long assignment in which students will submit their photos online to get feedback from a group of volunteer professional photographers, and an hour-long follow-up class meeting date to share work and receive feedback from both the teacher and fellow students.
