In this workshop you will learn the basics of linocut printmaking on a larger scale, including how to carve, ink, and print your linoleum stamp. We will discuss the various tools required for these processes, and focus primarily on printing on paper (as opposed to textiles). Teaching artist Jaiden Dokken will guide students through each technique; no prior experience required!

Paper and most tools will be provided. Attendees will leave with multiple prints and their own carved stamps, one 8” x 10” stamp and one 12” x 18” stamp (which they can use to make more prints in the future!).

Upon registering for the course, students will be encouraged to brainstorm design concepts prior to the first class. Students will have the opportunity to bring their supplies home and work on their stamps outside of classroom hours. Jaiden will be available for feedback and help beyond the classroom via Northwind Art's learning management platform over the three weeks.

  • The majority of the tools are provided as part of the materials fee (including an 8" x 10" linoleum block, a 12" x 18" linoleum block, brayer, printing surface, ink, and paper).
  • Students will need to purchase and bring to class a set of carving knives: Jaiden recommends this set. (Please let us know if this is prohibitive for your participation in the class and if you need to borrow a set of knives from the school for the duration of this course).
  • Students can also purchase their own brayer, printing surface, ink, and paper for pulling test prints at home.

After registration, course details are available via the Northwind Art School learning portal, including course syllabus and supply information. Learn more
