DESCRIPTION
Immerse yourself in the beauty of trees through drawing, carving, and hand-printing in this one-day workshop with artist Charles Spitzack. Held at Fort Worden and inspired by the trees in the large wooded state park, this class invites you to explore the spirit and graceful lines of trees as artistic subjects.
You'll learn to design, carve, and print your own woodcut, using traditional Japanese washi paper and safe, non-toxic inks. Charles will guide you through each step of the process—from sketching your tree to carving the block and creating a final print by hand.
Perfect for both beginners and experienced printmakers, this workshop offers an engaging introduction — or deepening — to woodcut techniques, which can easily be practiced at home in the future. You will come away with your own unique tree-inspired print and the skills to keep carving.
All materials are provided — just bring your ideas and curiosity!
