ABOUT CAROL
Carol Nielsen is an abstract mixed media artist, creating pieces that have backgrounds rich with texture, layers and marks. Each piece begins with original monotypes and found papers, loose marks and multiple layers of acrylic paint. The layers are gradually revealed using techniques to move the paint or sanding back to reveal depth and the ‘history’ of the layers. Carol responds to the shapes and colors that are revealed where new colors, papers and lines are added to build the ‘story’ for each painting. The story can evolve in surprising directions, and very seldom has a predetermined ending. Her unique approach allows the viewer to discover their own story, see the surprises and feel the joy that Carol experiences when she is painting. Carol lives in Port Ludlow.
