Ekphrastic creation is when a poet is inspired by art and writes from that source. In this workshop, we turn the ekphrastic process around. Absorbing poems, you’ll respond visually, exploring modes of expression including typographic, narrative, symbolic and non-representational. Poems provided from Wallace Stevens, David Whyte, Lisel Mueller, Mary Oliver, Ursula LeGuin, William Stafford, Billy Collins and others. Your art will honor the mystery of the poet’s magic, tapping into the reciprocity possible between art forms. All levels welcome.

  • Materials fee of $20 to be paid directly to the instructor on the first day of class.

  • During class, students will be able to browse through a provided poem packet and books and are also welcome to bring their favorite poems to work with.

  • Full supply details will be provided upon registration.

After registration, course details are available via the Northwind Art School learning portal, including course syllabus and supply information. Learn more

Meg Kaczyk began her creative career as an illustrator and designer in Detroit, moving west to become a creative director in Portland. The precision of graphic design played counterpoint to her painting, emboldening her loose and fluid style. Meg loves the collaboration in teaching and empowers her students to make art that arises from their own seeing.
