Introduction to Silk Painting with Waterbased Resist

DESCRIPTION

Silk painting using water based resists is like creating stained glass, but on fabric. Using a square piece of silk crepe de chine, artist Evette Allerdings will teach you multiple techniques to create a one of a kind piece to wear or display. You will have time to make two pieces; a silk crepe de chine and a silk habotai. 

SUPPLY INFORMATION

• Students should bring an apron and a roll of paper towel.
  
  
• $65 supply fee, payable to the instructor the day of the course.
  
  
• Evette will provide students with an instructional worksheet,  2 pieces of silk, stretching frame, safety pins with stretching clips, use of 30 dye silk dye colors, palette, brushes, gutta in an applicator,  salt, alcohol, sizing, newsprint, blow dryer, and steamer.
  
  
• Students will be able to take home a completed 25"x25" silk crepe de chine piece and a 21.5" x 21.5" silk habotai piece to steam at home.

ABOUT EVETTE ALLERDINGS

Evette was born, raised, and lived in Hawaii for the majority of her life. She moved to Washington in mid 2018. She has a degree in Fashion Design and is a multi award winning costumer at her local Community College. Always searching for the perfect fabric for a costume, she ventured into painting on silk in 2015 and found a new passion.
