DESCRIPTION Do you want to learn what qualities make impactful black and white digital photographs? This workshop emphasizes shooting in black and white with intention and purpose. Students will learn to appreciate monochrome photography as its own medium, distinctive from color photography. The class will review the elements of design as they relate to photography including texture, atmosphere, story, light quality, and line. Friday evening students are invited to the school to watch a modern black and white film that incorporates the learning objectives of the class.
Students need to bring any type of digital camera.
A laptop or other photo-editing device (ex: iPad)
ABOUT JEREMY JOHNSON
Jeremy is a Pacific Northwest native specializing in maritime and adventure photography. He has been photographing for over twenty years, initially in darkroom black and white, and continue both analog and digital black and white processing. His style follows documentary and photojournalistic roots with an emphasis on composition and story. He has self-published two magazine-style monographs with an upcoming third called "Port Townsend Maritime". His work has been featured by the Jefferson County Historical Society, the Northwest Maritime Center, Maritime Washington, 1889 Magazine, Filson, among others.
