Have you ever seen painters out in the field capturing the beauty of the landscape before them and wish you could do that?  Well, you can! Painting outside can be an exhilarating experience.  Join Tracy Grisman in this 2-day workshop covering plein aire basics – Alla Prima style – to get you started on what could be a lifelong adventure of learning and creating. You’ll learn tips on choosing what to paint, materials, set up, light and shadow, color choices, composition, block in and development. 


  • Easel, Palette

  • Paints: Oils, pastel, acrylic (Tracy will demo in oils)

  • Brushes: three sizes of flats, filberts. 

  • 3 canvas or boards of preference: Standard sizes up to 16” x 20”

Tracy Grisman learned to paint with oils at Philadelphia College of Art in 1976, under a Saturday school scholarship for young painters. While earning her B.S.N., she learned more about the medium from Gary Moeller at Rogers State College in Oklahoma. She also studied with Craig Nelson, Camille Przewodek and Max Ginsburg. A member of the Portrait of Society of America since 2005 and a Cecilia Beaux member, she earned an MFA in Interdisciplinary Art from Goddard College in 2019.
